PEST CONTROL: COCKROACHES

Cockroaches of one species or another are almost universal in bakeries, flour mills, breweries, houses, offices, warehouses, ships, hotels, restaurants, hospitals and schools. They prefer to live in dirty areas and consequently will spread disease organisms such as salmonella, or those responsible for tuberculosis and dysentery.

To develop effective control programs for cockroaches it is necessary to understand their biology and to properly identify the species. Some common pest species of cockroaches are the German, Brown-banded, American, Australian, Smokybrown and Oriental cockroaches. All of these cockroaches have the same body form and differ only in size, appearance and biological habits.

Control Methods
Orange Protector will inspect infested areas to determine an appropriate treatment strategy. This may include housekeeping practices to reduce the attractiveness of the area for cockroaches to breed with the judicious use of treatment applications to control any cockroach problem.

The main control method we use for cockroaches is gel baits. This allow us to eliminate cockroaches in domestic and commercial situations without disruption. Synthetic pyrethroids in liquid or dust formulations may also be required to control certain species. Glue boards monitor traps are also used to monitor activity.

You must administer a good hygiene regime to discourage cockroach infestation. All food scraps should be removed, crack and crevices in kitchen should be sealed and minimise open rubbish areas and storage around external areas.
